Behold the 2013 KTM 1190 Adventure bike. Details and images of the fresh-faced offroader have been leaked ahead of its official debut, to take place at the Cologne motorcycle show, Intermot, in October.
Update: KTM has officially announced the 1190 Adventure and 1190 Adventure R bikes, saying the "...two completely newly developed models represent the Adventure Generation 2013 and herald the start of the pure new adventure as of February 2013."
In addition to what we already know, peak power is 150hp (110kW) with torque of 125Nm, and KTM is claiming maintenance costs will be low thanks to 15,000km service intervals.
Adjustable handlebars and footrests have been confirmed, as has "multiple programmable electronic WP suspension (EDS)" which will give BMW's adventure bikes something to think about.
As predicted, the KTM 1190 Adventure R gets tougher suspension on top of its bash bars and bigger wheels, with fully adjustable WP upside down telescopic forks with separate rebound and compression damping.
Four images have been broadcast across the digital ether in recent days, including one from the official Austrian/German KTM brochure which reveals some solid details of the new model.
Powered by an 1195cc V-twin engine used in the KTM RC8 R superbike, the KTM 1190 Adventure outputs 147hp (108kW) and weighs more than Adventure 990 model, 235kg all up.
From our basic understanding of German, "variabel sitzposition und winschild einstellbar" means you can adjust the seat height and wind shield, while (potentially switchable) offroad ABS and traction control adds a bit of a techy goodness to the package. A slipper clutch isn't a bad addition either.
Competing in the same space as the BMW R1200 GS and the Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200, the big-bore KTM adventure bike has a sizeable 24-litre fuel tank.
One of the four leaked photos also shows a more rugged version of the bike, the 2013 KTM 1190 Adventure R. This model is distinguished by orange crash bars around the engine, a lower wind shield and a simpler single-piece seat.
Look closely and the KTM 1190 Adventure R also appears to have larger wheels, 21-inch fore, 18-inch aft, and suspension updates are likely to accompany the more capable rolling stock.
Stay tuned for all the details closer to the Cologne motorcycle show, INTERMOT, from October 3, 2012.
