A new range of 490 motorcycles from KTM has been confirmed, with the bikes to be built as part of the CFMOTO-KTM2R2 joint venture.
The news was confirmed by CFMOTO Australia, which also revealed that the upcoming CFMOTO 450SR will be the first bike to benefit from the 450cc parallel-twin engine platform which features a 270-degree crank.
According to US website Visordown, the new KTM 490 range will include KTM 490 Duke, a KTM 490 RC, a KTM 490 Adventure, a KTM 490 Supermoto, and a KTM 490 Enduro.

The addition of a 490 platform helps fill another gap in KTM’s capacity range, which already includes single cylinder 125 (overseas) and 390 models, as well as twin-cylinder 790, 890, and 1290 platforms.
Of particular note, a KTM 490 Adventure could potentially carry an R designation, offering a more dirt-friendly LAMS option to the single-cylinder KTM 390 Adventure.
The KTM and CFMOTO partnership has begun to show dividends in recent times, with the recently-launched CFMOTO 800MT packing KTM’s popular 790 engine platform.
The partnership began in 2013, with CFMOTO agreeing to produce small-capacity KTM-badged models for the Chinese market, but it eventually expanded into a joint-venture and a brand-new facility in Hangzhou.
