Venom heads KTM 2009 line-up

Team orange goes for bigger twin

A recently-released investment prospectus for KTM reveals the company is planning to launch the Venom concept bike in 2009, with a bigger 1199cc V-twin.

Though better known for its dirt bikes, KTM has become increasingly aggressive in its attempts to gain a foothold in the road bike market over recent years.

The company will be relying on three main engine platforms: the 999cc twin, the 654cc single and the new 1200.

Race fans will no doubt be wondering if the company will now head for world superbike racing, as the big twin fits into the new rules for the category.

Meanwhile the brand has entered a whole new category: ATVs.

Two models have just been launched in the USA, based on 450 and 525 powerplants.

The company promises: "After the introduction of the new KTM model family on American soil, the all-terrain vehicles will be available via through the entire KTM sales distribution network from the summer of 2008."
