After nearly 30 years at its current headquarters in Campbellfield in Melbourne’s north, Honda Motorcycles Australia is looking for a new home.
While a new location is yet to be determined, the plan is for Honda MPE (Motorcycles, Power Equipment and Marine) to join Honda Australia (Cars) in a new facility.
The move will mark the first time since Honda MPE moved to Campbellfield in 1991 that the two main divisions of Honda in Australia will share a single head office.

Honda plans to sell both the Campbellfield premises, as well as its Tullamarine headquarters (where the car division has been based for 40 years).
The Japanese auto giant also owns property in Somerton, where Honda Manufacturing Australia (HMA) and Honda Australia Rider Training (HART) is based. However, the Somerton site will remain and further development is under consideration.
Joining the motorcycle and car divisions is a logical move for Honda Australia, with a number of personnel and system resources already shared.
“Having common resources housed under a single roof whilst enabling both companies to continue to operate as independent, but synergistic, entities has been identified as a future source of efficiency for both companies,” said Honda MPE’s Cameron Cuthill.
Both the Campbellfield and Tullamarine properties are situated in premium locations and will draw a lot of attention from prospective buyers in the ever-expanding northern corridor of Melbourne.
The properties will appear on the market soon, however a departure date depends on finding a new home. “They’ve just started the process,” Cuthill told bikesales. “A group has been put together to look at available options, but it will probably remain in Melbourne’s north.”
It is unclear if the preference is for a new purpose-built facility, or to make use of an existing commercial property in Melbourne’s north. The current locations work for Honda due to proximity to Melbourne Airport, as well as catering to staff needs.
