Honda backs CB1000 Hornet SP owners with seven-year warranty

A recall on the Honda CB1000 Hornet SP will see engines rebuilt to address an oil consumption issue, while owners will be supported by an increased seven-year warranty.

Honda Australia initially issued a recall for the Hornet to check and monitor oil levels due to excessive oil consumption, but the brand has now stated that a recall to implement a permanent fix for excessive oil use will be “applied to all bikes”.

In addition, the warranty will be increased from six years to seven years from the date of registration for customers and demonstrator bikes. As a further measure of support for its customers, bikes that were not initially covered by the six-year warranty will also receive the seven-year warranty from the date of purchase.

Honda says the cause of the issue is “piston and ring specifications”, which can result in oil entering the combustion chamber. Affected engines will be rebuilt by trained Honda technicians at Honda dealerships.
