Honda Australia is moving closer to reuniting its car and motorcycle divisions, with the company confirming work on its new headquarters is well underway.
The automotive giant’s local operations are currently split between two locations, with Honda Australia (cars) located at Sharps Road, Tullamarine, and Honda Australia MPE (motorcycles and power equipment) located at Sydney Road, Campbellfield.
In August last year, Honda Australia announced it would be leaving its home of 40 years at Sharps Road for a modern new facility nearby, with MPE to be based in the same building. It was recently revealed that the new headquarters will be based in Moonee Ponds, in Melbourne’s inner north.
Now Honda has a target date for the move, with the new facility set to be up and running in the first quarter of 2023.

“We are now making significant investments across the broader Honda business to strengthen our local operations,” said Stephen Collins, CEO of Honda Australia.
“It has been more than 30 years since Honda’s automotive and motorcycle/power equipment businesses were co-located and it is a significant undertaking to reunify the two business operations.
“As ‘One Honda’ in Australia we will have greater scale to realise our full potential and best serve our diverse range of customers.”
As part of the new arrangement, Honda will also establish a new parts distribution facility in Melbourne Airport Business Park. Construction of the Parts Distribution Centre is underway and is due for completion in mid-2023.
In addition, the Somerton site, which houses Honda’s lawnmower and brushcutter assembly facility, as well as the Honda Advanced Rider Training facility, will benefit from further investment. HART also uses a site in Kilsyth, which will continue to operate.
The Tullamarine and Campbellfield properties have been sold to a fund managed by Hines global real estate and investment management.
