The top three fundraisers for the 2021 instalment of global charity motorcycle event, the Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride, have been announced, with the second and third place getters both hailing from the NSW city of Wollongong.
Phil Critcher and Ermond Morelli were both rewarded for their fund-raising efforts at Wollongong’s City Coast Motorcycles recently, with Phil, who raised $38,308, and Ermond, who raised $37,756, presented with a new Triumph Bobber in Matt Storm/Grey Matt Ironstone and a Triumph Bonneville T120 in Cobalt Blue/Silver Ice respectively, along with a special DGR-inspired Hedon helmet and commemorative prize plaque.

While the annual event is now held in over 900 cities around the world, the two Aussies were only outdone in 2021 by Joe Mancinelli of Hamilton, Canada, who raised an incredible $A101,920 – adding to his personal total of nearly $A250,000. Joe was presented with a new Triumph Thruxton RS.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride sees dapper gents and ladies dress to the nines for a group ride on a delectable smorgasbord of vintage, classic and modern classic motorcycles, in the process raising vital funds for men’s health spanning prostate cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention, on behalf of charity partner The Movember Foundation.
Event founder Mark Hawwa was on hand for the presentation of the bikes.
“What a fantastic day down here in Wollongong with City Coast Motorcycles giving away two new Triumphs – a Bobber and a Bonneville T120 – to Phill and Ermond for being the two highest fundraisers in Australia and two of the three highest fundraisers globally,” he said.
“It shows just how well Wollongong punches above its weight in regard to the riding community, the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride and people helping other men in need.”
Phill and Ermond have participated in the event since 2018 when they established their team of four, The FCs, or Four Cure. It has since grown to seven-strong, and in 2021 it ranked the third-highest fundraising team worldwide.
City Coast Motorcycles has been the driving force behind Wollongong DGR for five years now. The city has become one of the most generous in the DGR program, raising $350,000. In 2021 it achieved the second highest fundraising total, placing ahead of heavyweights like London and New York – an achievement which City Coast Motorcycles dealer principal Tim Sim said was truly humbling.
“It’s been an honour having Mark, Ramsey and Mikey from DGR join us in delivering these magnificent Triumphs today,” he said.
“Jane and I couldn’t be prouder of our local event that gets so much love and support from the Wollongong region.”
The 2022 Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride will be held on Sunday, May 22, with registrations opening on Monday, March 28. For more information head to www.GentlemansRide.com.
