Triumph Bonneville T40 and T40 Black revealed for 2027

Triumph's learner-friendly 400cc range just got bigger with new models and new tech

Triumph has expanded its 400cc motorcycle range with the new LAMS-approved Bonneville T40 and T40 Black, bringing the British brand’s classic roadster styling to its entry-level platform.

The new bikes will arrive in 2027 with local pricing to be announced early in the new year.

Both models are powered by a revised version of Triumph’s liquid-cooled, single-cylinder 400cc TR Series engine, with a dedicated tune aimed at delivering stronger low-rev torque and a more relaxed riding character.

Peak outputs are listed at 32 PS (approximately 32hp) at 7000rpm and 36Nm at 5000rpm. The T40 and T40 Black will also be LAMS-approved, making them eligible for learner riders in Australia.

Styling draws heavily on the traditional Bonneville formula, with a sculpted teardrop fuel tank, round LED headlight, spoked wheels, twin rear shock absorbers and a peashooter-style exhaust. The standard T40 features chrome and brushed-metal finishes, while the T40 Black adopts a darker treatment with blacked-out engine casings and exhaust components.

The standard model will be offered in three two-tone colour schemes, while the T40 Black will be available in Matt Pewter Grey and Matt Phantom Black.

Technology is a significant part of the package, with both motorcycles receiving an all-new 4-inch circular colour TFT display with smartphone connectivity and integrated map navigation. Other features include cruise control, three preset riding modes (Road, Rain and Eco), two customisable modes, lean-sensitive cornering ABS and traction control.

The T40 has a claimed ready-to-ride weight of 191kg and a seat height of 790mm, which can be reduced to 770mm with an optional low seat. An upright riding position and centre stand are also intended to make the motorcycle more practical for everyday use.

Triumph says the new models build on the success of its 400cc platform, which has sold more than 60,000 motorcycles across more than 50 countries. The range currently includes the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, Tracker 400 and Thruxton 400.

The Bonneville T40 and T40 Black are scheduled to arrive in Australian Triumph dealerships in the first quarter of 2027, with local pricing to be announced closer to launch.
