One of the longest-running rumours in recent memory, the development of a highly-strung Honda V4 sports bike, is now a reality.
After year's of speculation, Honda Motor Europe's chief of Product Planning and Development, David Hancock, confirmed in an interview at EICMA, that the big 'H' is working on a $120,000 superbike, rumoured to be the RC213.
Though the bike hasn't been given an official name yet - Japanese magazine Young Machine is calling it the Honda RCV1 - Mr Hancock said the bike will be a low volume model, with just enough units built for it to attain homologation for the World Superbike Championship.
Expect one of the most exotic, expensive, and powerful road bikes ever built by Honda then.
The idea, says Mr Hancock, is to develop a bike that generates the kind of excitement the RC30 and RC45 achieved.
No details on the motorcycle's development status were divulged, which means the bike could break cover in 2013, or possibly much later down the track.
Like most Honda fans, Japanese mag Young Machine is very excited by the news and has released what it claims are the world's first photos of the bike (pictured) but in reality are more likely photo-shop altered images.
Power and torque outputs from the expected 1000cc capacity V4 engine are likely to be class-leading but the new Honda motorcycle will also deliver a number of MotoGP-inspired chassis innovations, and no doubt acres of carbon fibre to keep weight down.
