Honda teases new motorcycle

Adventure bikes are all the rage it seems, with Honda confirming a new model for EICMA

The 2010 Cologne motorcycle show may have wound up, but now EICMA -- arguably the biggest two-wheeled show of the year -- is almost upon us.

As such, we're already starting to see a trickle of news come through ahead of the Italian motorcycle show, starting with this, Honda's new adventure tourer.

Likely to be powered by a modified version of the VFR1200F's V4 engine -- possibly smaller capacity than the 1200cc unit -- the bike will be shown at EICMA and could rival motorcycles like the Ducati Hypermotard.

The fairing appears to feature the 'layered' effect first seen on the Honda VFR, designed to pipe air around the rider, aimed at giving the product a more upmarket appeal.

However this particular model is not expected to be an 'proper' off-road product - the ground clearance isn't much above a sports bike - and with Honda rumoured to be launching more than half a dozen brand new models and concepts at EICMA, there is a very good chance we'll see a bona fide dirt-capable big-bore adventure bike from the Japanese marque, one that would rival the BMW R1200GS.

There is also talk of a show-stopping concept bike that will be shown on the Honda stand, kitted out with the VFR's 1200cc V4 engine and twin-clutch automatic gearbox, though whether its a sports bike, a tourer or a naked bike are not yet known. Watch this space.
