Honda Crossrunner pricing emerges

Pricing for Honda's new BMW-rivalling adventure tourer has been confirmed for the UK, and will be powered by a 100hp 800cc V4 engine

The new Honda Crossrunner due in Australian showrooms in the second half of 2011 has been priced in the UK, at £9,075. This price equates to around $15,000 when converted, but the real price of the bike when it arrives in Australia is likely to be closer to its BMW and Ducati rivals, so don't expect too much change from $20,000.

The new model from Honda is expected to rival bikes as diverse as the Ducati Multistrada and Triumph Tiger 800 and is likely to priced similarly as a result, but will deliver several points of difference such as the V4 engine, bold styling and extensive accessories list.

As the second motorcycle that adheres to a new upmarket design ethos, after the VFR1200F, the new Honda Crossrunner is said to combine the best aspects of naked and adventure bikes, culminating in a curious design that's difficult to pigeonhole.

Power for the chunky new motorcycle is provided by an 800cc V4 engine, borrowed from the VFR800, and Honda says the new model will deliver the kind of handling response usually found in "sports-touring" bikes, making it an "ideal all-round machine".

Peak power output for the 782cc four-cylinder engine is 100hp (75kW) at 10,000rpm and 73Nm at 9500rpm, and as the specifications below show, it's a 240kg proposition. Honda appears to have listened to widespread criticism of the VFR1200F's small fuel tank and have equipped the Crossrunner with a larger 21.5 litre fuel tank.

Honda reckons the Crossrunner was purposely designed "with pillion comfort in mind" and as such features a low-ish rear seat section "designed for easy mounting". The rider's seat height is 816mm while the passenger's seat is positioned to ensure the pillion passenger sits at a similar level to the rider, which is expected to benefit areas such wind protection.

As is the norm for modern Japanese bikes, ABS will be standard on the three-pot front and two-piston rear calipers and Honda promises the bike will be agile and easy to tip into corners thanks to its wide handlebar configuration.

Options for Australian models aren't yet set in stone, but UK will have access to a 29-litre pannier kit, a 'sleek' 31-litre top box, plus other touring options such as heated grips and a higher windscreen.

Colours for the Honda Crossrunner will comprise Black and Silver, Pearl White and Matt Silver, plus Candy and Silver.
