Honda cracks 30,000

Expect to see a host of record results from manufacturers on the back of the latest sales figures, which show we bought over 119,000 new bikes in 2006.

Honda reports it is the first manufacturer in Australia to crack the 30,000 mark – more than the the total bike market when its nose-dived in the mid 1980s!

The company says: Number one selling bikes nationwide in their respective categories for year end once again included Honda's championship winning CRB1000RR Fireblade (#1 -- pictured) and CBR600RR (#2), Sports Tourer CBR1100XX Blackbird, Motocrossers CRF250R (#1) and CRF450R (#2), 4-wheel favourite TRX350TM, and the iconic Postie Bike (CT110X).

Sales were also strong for the manufacturer's remaining models such as the VFR800 (up 32 per cent), the new CBF250, enduro favourite CRF450X, Today50 scooter and the full range of mini bikes. Overall, Honda sold a total of 30,865 units which is around a 9 per cent increase on last year's sales.

We also know that Triumph had a bumper year, with a 46.5 per cent lift in sales to 2752 – up from 1879 in 2005. Its twin cylinder range was the big performer, with the Speedmaster and America leading the way.

We also understand that Suzuki had a particularly good year, along with Hyosung. The latter recorded a 103 per cent increase - albeit off a low base.
