EICMA: 2024 Honda CBR650R and CB650R to debut new E-clutch system

Honda will debut its clever new e-clutch system on the 2024 CBR650R sportsbike and CB650R naked bike

Honda’s LAMS-approved 2024 CB650R inline four-cylinder naked bike and its fully-faired CBR650R sportsbike sibling will be the first models in Honda’s range to receive the option of the firm’s innovative new e-clutch.

Lighter and far less complicated than Honda’s dual-clutch transmission, the new e-clutch will take over the manual clutch duties for the rider on a motorcycle with a conventional manual transmission.

Once activated, for example, the rider will be able to pull away from a standstill simply by twisting the throttle, while moving through the ratios using the foot-actuated gear lever.

Other than tweaks to the styling, both bikes gain the same five-inch TFT screen thrown at most Honda models for next year which, like on the CB500 Hornet, is operated via backlit four-way toggle switch.

Both bikes roll on a 120-section front hoop and a 180-section rear, the forks are Showa’s upside-down SFF-BP units while the front brake package is a radial-mounted twin-disc affair on both machines.

Australian pricing and availability at this stage is still yet to be announced.
