2013 Honda XR125L

Budget-priced sub-$3000 ag-bike from Honda aimed at farmers, and "ideal for following slow moving cattle". The machine will go on sale in May

Honda is gearing up to launch the new XR125L motorcycle in Australia next month, pitched as an affordable, reliable farmer's bike.

Priced at $2990, the 125cc dirt bike will arrive in showrooms nationally from early May, and is being touted as rugged and workhorse with all the trimmings needed on an agricultural bike.

The 125cc single-cylinder engine is "quiet, smooth running and responsive" says Honda, and has been tuned for "the toughest farm terrain" with plenty of torque for hill-climbing.

Hooked up to a five-speed gearbox and fitted with a 12-litre fuel tank, the Honda XR125L features long-travel suspension and "forgiving handling" designed to cope with the choppy, bumpy, rugged terrain. Honda reckons the cushy suspension makes the XR125L "ideal for following slow moving cattle or transporting essential equipment around the farm safely".

A low seat height was designed to make repeatedly getting on and off the bike much easier, while flat(ish) bars contribute to an easygoing riding position. The bike also features headlight and indicator lights.

The new budget-priced XR125L comes with a maintenance-free sealed battery and an electric starter, and a foot-operated kick-start works as back up and adds peace of mind.

The new Honda XR125L goes on sale in May for just under $3000.
