Moto Morini auctioned off

Italian motorcycle company Moto Morini's assets will be auctioned in April 2011 to the highest bidder, and could resurrect the brand

Struggling Italian motorcycle maker Moto Morini has been confirmed for auction on April 13, when the company will be sold off to the highest bidder.

There's a chance that the company could find a new buyer, perhaps a venture capital firm, and if such a transaction did take place, and said company decided to sink capital into the company, it could then kick-start future operations for Moto Morini.

The starting price for the auction is €5.5 million, which is about $7.4 million in local currency, and for that price you get your very own motorcycle company, which includes the following: the Moto Morini marque, plus drawings, projects, and best of all, production and assembly equipment so you can make your own vehicles.

The price also gets you office equipment, furniture, company cars, components, engines, parts, accessories, clothing and packaging, but new and used bikes are off limits (they've already been liquidated).

For that sort of coin, $7.4 million, you could also buy a 10 bedroom house on Sydney's North Shore, perhaps an custom made eight-berth pleasure cruiser marine vessel from Maritimo, or a middle-of-the-road soccer player from a European league.

It will be interesting to see if the auction attracts any buyers, but at the listed price the company makes for a veritable bargain and it would certainly be a shame if the company was liquidated and eventually closed its doors.
