BMW unveils exclusive ‘100 Years’ models

Just 35 examples each of the BMW R nineT 100 Years and R 18 100 Years earmarked for Australia

BMW Motorrad has pulled the covers of a couple of very special models to help celebrate the marque’s 100th anniversary: the BMW R nineT 100 Year and BMW R 18 100 Years.

But you’ll have to move very smartly indeed to secure one, as only 35 examples of each exclusive model will be reaching our shores.

With the very first BMW motorcycle being the R 32 of 1923, it’s a logical choice that these limited-edition masterpieces also hail from the German marque’s Boxer flat-twin range. Similarly, so too does the total production run for each model: 1923 units.

But lucky local owners won’t have to wait to long to see them in the metal, with the anniversary roadster hitting Australia late in the first quarter of this year, and the cruiser following early in the second quarter.

BMW R nineT 100 Years

The BMW R nineT 100 Years is powered by the model traditional 109hp (80kW) flat-twin, but boasts myriad options and what BMW describes as “an elaborate surface concept”, with high-grade paint-on-chrome surfaces and “exquisitely milled” parts and wheels, along with numerous Option 719 components.

“Paint finishes in combination with chrome surfaces also have an almost 100-year tradition in motorcycle construction,” says BMW. “Chrome surfaces, typically consisting of a copper, nickel and final chrome layer, are defined by their hardness. This results in high durability, protection against corrosion, and a characteristic radiant, mirror-like shine.

“This made chrome a common stylistic device for designers from the late 1920s onwards, in combination with high-quality paint concepts.

“With the new BMW R nineT 100 Years and R 18 100 Years and the Classic Chrome surface concept, BMW Motorrad is reviving this unmatched sophistication with the interplay of paint and chrome.”

BMW R nineT 100 Years features include:

  • Black/chrome tank with knee pads and 100 Years badge
  • Classic Chrome seat hump
  • Option 719 Black/Oxblood two-tone seat
  • Option 719 Classic wheels
  • Option 719 Shadow milled parts package, including cylinder head covers, engine housing covers, seat holders, oil filler plug
  • Option 719 Shadow II milled parts package, including adjustable hand levers, footrests, pillion footrests, expansion tank covers, ‘bar-end mirrors
  • Adaptive turning light
  • Comfort Package, including heated grips, cruise control, and Driving Modes Pro

BMW R 18 100 Years

The BMW R 18 100 Years, meanwhile, adopts the same special paintwork and surface concept with Classic Chrome.

BMW R 18 100 Years features include:

  • 100 Years badging
  • Option 719 Black/Oxblood seat
  • Avus Black engine, in tribute to the racing successes celebrated by BMW at the legendary Avus high-speed racetrack in Berlin
  • Akrapovic mufflers with ‘propeller-style’ perforated tailpipe trims
  • Headlight Pro adaptive turning light
  • Reversing aid
  • Cruise control
  • Heated grips

The BMW R nineT 100 Years is priced from $30,890 plus on-roads and the BMW R 18 100 Years is priced from $28,190 plus on-roads. See your nearest BMW Motorrad dealership for more information or click here.
