USA custom shops aren't often noted for their subtle approach to motorcycle design, but we couldn't help being attracted to this effort -- a Yamaha YZF-R1 cut down into a dirt track replica -- by Gregg des Jardins.
Yamaha in fact has quite a history with USA dirt track, with XS650-powered machines famously taking on the might of Harley-Davidson some decades ago.
Harley still trades on its dirt track heritage with the XR1200, and even Honda has had a go in the past with its now almost-forgotten FT500 single.
The R1, however, is not what would first pop into mind as the ideal donor vehicle, but surprisingly comes out looking pretty convincing.
Apart from the obvious cut-down and minimalisation work, the machine runs a bespoke swingarm and titanium subframe.
Yes, it's for sale, though the asking price is a fairly optimistic $US40,000 ($A48,500).
