Wunderlich BMW S 1000 RR Curarê

Fettled and tinkered, this German carbon fibre creation is made for touring: it's a poison arrow!

German tuning house Wunderlich has been fettling motorcycles for quite some time now, a quarter of a century in fact, and this beast, the Poison Arrow, has been built to commemorate the 25-year milestone.

The focus of the new bike, the Curarê (the name of a type of poison used by Brazilian indians on their arrows), is on weight minimisation and comfort, rather than outright ball-tearing power.

Based on the already angry BMW S 1000 RR sports bike, the Wunderlich Curarê is, according to its creators, "An absolute visual treat, boasting technical and ergonomic improvements, with significant weight reductions and well suited to long distance riding."

Seldom do the phrases 'long distance riding' and 'supersports motorcycles' appear in the same sentence, but Wunderlich has taken an unorthodox approach to its fettling, adding a pair of flat 'Power Sportego' handlebars for a cruisey, more upright riding position.

Other comfort features include the double-bubble sports windscreen with fairing extension kit, and an 'ActiveComfort' SportEgo seat, designed to deliver "improved seat comfort and better hold in hang-offs". The seat gets non-slip upholstery for better grip and the seat unit is also offered with higher cushions, between two and four centimetres.

The top yoke has also been replaced by a much lighter item, weighing just 1.8kg, and machined from high-tensile aluminium it looks good to boot.

There's also a smattering of exotic materials used to help reduce the Wunderlich BMW S 1000 R's mass, with carbon fibre and titanium on the list. Another weight saving modification is the ultra-light SBK exhaust system, which makes use of titanium headers to boot, adding to the visual and aural appeal.

Wunderlich has also added a piggyback performance controller, to optimise "torque development".

And finally there's the Gulf Oil-inspired paintjob. With an emphasis on comfort, this custom sports bike heads off in a surprising -- but fascinating -- direction. Check out Wunderlich.de for more details.
