Triumph enduro bikes developed "in parallel" with MX models

Triumph is teasing the upcoming reveal of its new off-road enduro models

Triumph has dropped a few hints about its all-new enduro motorcycles ahead of the official reveal on March 25.

A teaser video released today gives a glimpse at the new dedicated off-road models, with Triumph’s Paul Edmonson joined by enduro stars Jonny Walker and Ivan Cervantes to test ride the bikes.

Most of the bike details are obscured by trees, however a single headlight – a defining feature of “road-legal” enduro bikes – can be seen clearly.

Triumph Senior Product Manager, James Wood, dropped a few clues at the Australian media launch of the TF 450-RC motocross bike. Notably, he confirmed that the enduro models were developed in parallel with the motocross models (TF 250-X and TF 450-RC).

“It’s no secret we are working on enduro bikes,” said Wood in a Zoom call. “It’s been a program that was developed in parallel with the motocross bikes. We’ve designed a whole package around the ability to deliver both motocross and enduro bikes.”

This likely means that the enduro models will be based heavily on the motocross bikes, using the same engine with the addition of a wide ratio gearbox, and the same frame with alterations for different flex characteristics. Key changes will likely include a softer suspension setup, a smaller rear wheel, more protection including a baseplate and handguards, a headlight, and capability for road-legal equipment like indicators and taillights.

It is quite common for bike makers to build modern enduro bikes with their motocross counterpart as a base platform. Not only is it a more efficient way of producing new products, but it also ensures the enduro bikes are competitive at race level.

Wood also referenced engine sizes, possibly hinting at both 250cc and 450cc capacities. “It’s probably very easy for you to guess which engine capacities they might come in. We’re in a good place now and we’re very happy with how those bikes are coming along. Watch this space.”

In the same Zoom call, Wood also confirmed there were no plans for a two-stroke platform from Triumph.

"We are fully committed to the four-stroke platform, and that's what we'll be doing going forward," he said.

Paul Edmonson and Jonny Walker

The enduro teasers follow the September 2024 announcement that Jonny Walker had parted ways with Beta to join the newly-formed Triumph Racing enduro team.

Locally, Stefan Granquist and Emelie Karlsson rode for Triumph in the opening two rounds round of the Australian Enduro Championship, but used modified versions of the TF 250-X motocross bike.

The full enduro reveal is scheduled for 11pm AEDT on March 25.
