Suzuki's brand-new fully faired all-rounder, the GSX1250FA, has just been launched in Australia, giving the brand a new "versatile sports bike" to bolster its product portfolio.
Expected to rival motorcycles in the big bore sports tourer market, such as the Honda VFR1200F and BMW K1300S, the GSX1250FA is powered by a 1255cc fuel-injected DOHC four-cylinder engine (derived from the Bandit 1250S's powerplant) and can be optioned with a "range of functional accessories" such as a hard top case and panniers.
The new Suzuki GSX1250FA is priced at $13,990 before government and delivery charges are added, and comes as standard with an adjustable seat height (ranging between 805mm and 825mm), a large 19 litre fuel tank for extended range cruising, an ABS system to increase safety and newly styled fairing to keep the wind off the rider.
Suzuki's big all-rounder is being touted as a jack-of-all trades, with sportsbike levels of performance and handling but also tourer-like cruising abilities.
The new model gets a flashy new instrument cluster "designed with functionality in mind" according to Suzuki, including an analogue tach, plus an LCD speedometer which also has a gear-position indicator and shift light so you don't (unintentionally) bounce off the rev limiter.
"The GSX1250FA bolsters an already comprehensive and value-packed street bike range," stated Perry Morison, Suzuki Australia's General Manager of Motorcycles.
"With a stylish full fairing, comfortable ergos, and demonstrated Suzuki street bike pedigree, the GSX1250FA will strengthen Suzuki's already dominant position in the big street bike category," added Morison.
Suzuki has added some whiz-bang tech to the 1255cc four-banger, with composite electrochemical material coating of the aluminium-alloy cylinder bores, which is claimed to cut down friction while enhancing thermal dynamics and durability.
Bottom end torque has been improved thanks to 36mm throttle bodies that make use of dual throttle valves and Suzuki has also added an automatic Idle Speed Control (ISC) system that helps to reduce emissions, improve cold starts and also even out engine idle in changing conditions.
Engine power is transferred from the crank to the chain via a six-speed gearbox.
As mentioned the Suzuki GSX1250FA comes with a dual front-rear ABS system which integrates with the floating four-pot front calipers and single piston rear calipers, which bite 310mm and 240mm discs respectively.
Built around a tubular frame, the new sports tourer from Suzuki measures 2130mm long and 790mm and delivers an "excellent balance of sporty handling and rider comfort at highway cruising speeds" thanks to 25.2 degrees of rake and 104mm of trail.
Suspension comprises 43mm stanchion tube forks at the front and while a single shock sits at the rear. Both have adjustable spring preload. Available in two colours, blue or grey, and priced at $13,990 the GSX1250FA is backed by Suzuki's two-year, unlimited kilometre warranty.
