A huge model reveal is expected from Suzuki on February 5, and rumours are swirling that it could be a new iteration of the legendary Hayabusa.
Suzuki has confirmed that a new street motorcycle will be unveiled at the grand opening of its Global Salon virtual show, as well as on the Suzuki Australia website, but the only hint so far is a brief YouTube teaser on the Japanese marque’s channel.

The teaser video shows the silhouette of a motorcycle tearing around a track, and the bike does indeed appear to have similarities to the 1349cc ‘Busa that was first launched in 1999.
While the video stops short of confirming that the new bike is a Hayabusa, it does show that the new model will have a comprehensive electronics package, including a digital display.
Arriving in 1999 at time when Japanese manufacturers were battling to build bikes with the highest top speed, the Hayabusa became an instant classic thanks to its fire-breathing engine and a top speed north of 300km/h.
It remain largely unchanged until 2008 when it gained a capacity-increase, more output, revised bodywork and better brakes in suspension. It then got radial-mount Brembo brakes and ABS in 2013.
Failing to meet emissions laws, the Hayabusa was discontinued in Europe in 2018 and then in the US in 2020, but it continued to be sold in other markets including Australia.
A new Suzuki Hayabusa would almost-certainly meet the Euro5 emissions standard, but some sources believe that other changes to the iconic bike would be minimal. Part of the ‘Busa’s appeal is that it has always stayed true to the original 1999 version.
The unveiling of the new model is set for February 5th at 6:00pm AEDT. Stay tuned to bikesales.com.au for more information.
