Suzuki expands LAMS range

GSX650FU and SV650SU added to the mix

Suzuki has expanded its range of learner-approved motorcycles to 12 with the arrival of two new 2009 models – the GSX650FU and SV650SU.

The venerable SV650S has been a part of the Suzuki middleweight landscape since 1999, and features a 645cc 90-degree V-twin engine, which has been re-mapped to meet Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS) requirements in “SU” configuration.

A full-power version of the SV650S will still be available from dealers, just as it will be for the versatile GSX650F four-cylinder machine.

“Suzuki is committed to ensuring all entry-level and returning motorcyclists have a diverse range of options, and these two brand new models are a welcome addition to our LAMS range,” said Perry Morison, General Manager Motorcycles, Suzuki Australia.  “I think LAMS is going to see more and more riders taking to the streets, and we feel that our range caters to all the needs of new and returning riders.”

LAMS has recently been introduced into Victoria, joining South Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory, the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales. LAMS laws dictate that motorcycles do not exceed a power-to-weight ratio of 150kW per tonne.

Both new LAMS models will retail for $9990 (plus ORC), the same price as their full-power siblings.

The SV650SU, which is on sale now,  features a Metallic Blue livery, while the GSX650FU, on sale in coming weeks, comes with a Metallic Blue/White colour scheme.
