Royal Enfield reveal looming

Indian maker has something special in store for EICMA, and Bikesales will be there…

As we draw closer to the opening of the 2017 EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy, it's clear Indian manufacturer Royal Enfield is busily preparing for one of its most important product launches in years.

While there have been no hard comments on the reveal from Royal Enfield, which now has three manufacturing facilities in and around the Indian city of Chennai, the Internet is rife with spy pics of new parallel-twins bearing the Royal Enfield name.

Believed to be 750cc in capacity, multiple new models could be poised for launch – a single-seat café racer and a bench-seat roadster both based around the same new powerplant and tubular-steel cradle frame.

The spy pics show motorcycles that appear to be heavily based on Royal Enfield's existing Continental GT, but with numerous upgrades including ABS in addition to that beefy parallel-twin.

Adding further fuel to the rumour mill is a social media post made recently by Royal Enfield CEO, Siddhartha Lal, containing a brief video clip of the mystery models. An aerial shot shows two motorcycles negotiating a race track bend and although little can be seen of the bikes themselves, the audio reveals them to be powered by something more than the usual single-cylinder affair with which Royal Enfield is presently associated…

The arrival of the new engine will see Royal Enfield bring its cost-effective advantage to the global middleweight retro market, and will further broaden the horizons of a company that is very much on the move at present.

With the commissioning of its latest plant the company says its annual production will increase to 825,000 units, its products servicing not only the massive domestic Indian market but a growing number of other countries around the world.

Royal Enfield caused a stir last year when it unveiled its first adventure bike, the Himalayan, with the 411cc single slotting in next to the firm's range of 350cc and 500cc road-going singles.

Underlining that impetus, Bikesales.com.au has been invited with other select motorcycle media outlets from around the world to view the company's technical facility in the UK, before heading to Milan to witness the reveal of the new machine (machines?) first-hand.

Stay tuned for more information on the debut of what promises to be a very alluring new Royal Enfield retro bike platform…
