The road bike market jumped around 16 per cent, while H-D's figures increased by 40 per cent overall, with 5733 units sold, compared with 4076 in 2005.
The top three selling models during the year were the Softail Standard (FXST -- pictured), the Softail Fat Boy (FLSTF) and the Dyna Street Bob (FXDB).
The recent addition of a more powerful Twin Cam 96 engine, which was introduced in most 2007 models launched earlier this year, has meant that some Harley-Davidson models claim increases in power of up to 15 per cent, and torque increases of up to 20 per cent.
The company claims that while its position as market leader in the over 650cc motorcycle segment remains solid as ever, this continued sales growth for Harley-Davidson can also be attributed to the brand's ever expanding line of affordable and excellent value motorcycles within other motorcycle market segments.
Harley-Davison Marketing Manager for Australia and New Zealand Adrian O'Donoughue said the recent sales growth means the brand is on track with its objective of reaching out to new markets, including younger riders and females.
"There aren't many brands in the world like Harley-Davidson. Regardless of your age, financial situation, gender or general interest when you buy one - I can tell you from experience - it will change your life, make dreams a reality and offer a sense of freedom and exhilaration that you couldn't imagine until you ride one."
