Pricing announced for 2020 Triumph Rocket 3

With local availability of the world's largest-capacity volume production motorcycles, the Triumph Rocket 3 R and Rocket 3 GT, not far away…

Triumph Motorcycles Australia has announced local pricing for its 2020 Triumph Rocket III R and 2020 Triumph Rocket III GT, with the two volume-production versions of the bike – powered by a mighty 2458cc inline triple engine – destined to hit Aussie showrooms in the first quarter of 2020 from $29,990 ride away and $30,900 ride away respectively.

The Triumph Rocket 3 GT (left) and Rocket 3 R are powered by the world's biggest-capacity volume-production engine, a 2458cc inline triple.

The pair join the exclusive 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 TFC (Triumph Factory Custom), of which only 25 examples have been secured for the Australian market. Triumph Australia says all 25 have been sold, at a price of $36,990 plus on-road costs.

Just 25 examples of the 2020 Triumph Rocket III TFC have been secured for Australia.

What are the differences between the Rocket 3 R and Rocket 3 GT?

The Rocket 3 R is described as the "ultimate muscle roadster" and has mid-mount controls, roadster-style handlebars and a 773mm seat height, while the Rocket 3 GT has a more laid-back disposition: touring-oriented handlebars, forward controls, a lower 750mm seat height, heated grips and a brushed aluminium height-adjustable pillion backrest.

The Rocket 3 GT (left) has a more relaxed ride position and a screen, while the Rocket 3 R has been billed by Triumph as the "ultimate muscle roadster".

What do the Rocket 3 R and Rocket 3 GT have in common?

Plenty, including interchangeable twin and single seat set-ups, while the power and torque from the massive triple engine are imposing: 221Nm at 4000rpm and 167hp (124.5kW) at 6000rpm.

The Rockets are also 40kg lighter than the previous generation: the dry weight of the Rocket 3 R is 291kg and 294kg for the Rocket 3 GT.

That's nearly two-and-a-half litres of inline triple fury!

Other common features include:

  • Hydroformed exhaust headers, delivering a deep growling triple sound;
  • Torque-assist hydraulic clutch;
  • Twin LED headlights;
  • Avon Cobra tyres;
  • Single-sided swingarm;
  • Hidden folding pillion footrests;
  • Twenty-spoke cast aluminium wheels with a 240mm 16-inch rear tyre;
  • Brembo Stylema monobloc brakes and adjustable Showa suspension;
  • TFT instruments with illuminated switch cubes;
  • Cornering ABS and traction control;
  • Four riding modes, LED lighting, hill hold control, cruise control and keyless ignition;
  • Underseat USB charging; and
  • Over 50 dedicated accessories, including an all-new luggage range, bi-directional quickshifter, integrated GoPro control system, Triumph TFT connectivity and tyre pressure monitoring.

What colours will they come in?

  • Rocket 3 R: Korosi Red or Phantom Black
  • Rocket 3 GT: Silver Ice and Storm Grey with a Korosi Red pinstripe decal or Phantom Black
