Rumours of a new Suzuki Hayabusa have been confirmed, with the Japanese marque revealing a completely-overhauled model for 2021.
The 2022 Suzuki Hayabusa (aka GSX1300RRQ) is the third generation of the legendary high-powered sportsbike, and benefits from a long list of new electronic rider aids. It is set to arrive in Australia mid-2021 with a price tag of $27,690 ride away.

New for the next-gen model is the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS) which has featured on other recent Suzuki models. The SIRS encompasses a wide variety of rider aids including motion-track traction control, anti-lift control, engine brake control, launch control, cruise control, hill-hold control and the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector with three factory modes and three custom modes.
Additionally, the new Hayabusa features a Bosch six-axis IMU, bi-directional quickshifter, new LED lighting, new Brembo Stylema brakes and a new instrument cluster which includes a TFT LCD panel. The new bike also includes an active speed limiter that allows the rider to set a maximum speed for the bike. Suzuki says this is a first in the motorcycle industry.
The famed 1340cc inline four-cylinder engine has not changed much, though it is now Euro5 compliant and has revised internal components that Suzuki says results in a better low-to-mid range power output.
Interstingly, the new Hayabusa actually loses power and torque, with figures of 140kW (down from 145kW) at 9700rpm and 150Nm (down from 155Nm) at 7000rpm. This is likely to help meet Euro5 regulations, but Suzuki still claims a blistering top-speed of 299km/h.
Also updated is the KYB suspension settings and the geometry with a handlebar that is 12mm closer to the rider. The bodywork has also been slightly altered for aerodynamics and a modern look, but it maintains the classic Hayabusa style that has stood since the bike’s introduction in 1999.
The 2022 Hayabusa will come in two colourways – Glass Sparkle Black/Candy Burnt Gold and Metallic Matte Sword Silver/Candy Daring Red. The bike is set to be in high demand and there will be a limited supply for Australia. Potential customers must use Suzuki’s Build and Order platform at suzukimotorcycles.com.au or visit their local Suzuki dealership to reserve their machine.
