The sale of MV Agusta from Harley-Davidson back to the Castiglioni family sends the exotic brand back to its country of origin in Italy, and thankfully fundamental product development has not been changed.
As MV Agusta's head honcho - Claudio Castiglioni - told the Italian media, much of the company's future success will rest on upcoming motorcycles powered by its all-new 675cc three-cylinder engine.
Castiglioni revealed that the first new model to use the triple banger will be the MV Agusta F3 (pictured), also officially confirming the supersport's name.
As has been widely predicted, "Casti" confirmed that a naked version of the F3 supersport was in development, also powered by the 675cc mill.
He refers to the Brutale's younger sibling as the 'Brutalina', however this was Castiglioni's pet name for the motorcycle, and the finished product will get a more masculine name.
The two new smaller capacity models will be more affordable than the current models in the MV Agusta range, the Brutale and F4, with prices tipped to start at around €9,000, which is about A$13,000.
Add shipping costs and that price would rise closer to $15k, but the demand for Italian exotica certainly won't hurt the new models' chances.
Casti talks about selling 10,000 units in the next model year, which might be a stretch. However the MV Agusta boss did reveal that the new F3 and 'Brutalina' will be offered in two guises, a poverty pack model and a sports model.
The new pair of new MV Agusta three-cylinder models will compete with various sports and naked bikes, in particular the entry-level Ducati Monster 696, plus the highly lauded Triumph Street Triple and Daytona 675.
All we now are some official images of the new models, but we may have to wait until November for that, when the EICMA show in Milan rolls around.
