So it mightn't give old Burt Munro's record-setting 'world's fastest Indian' a run for its money on the salt flats, but even so this custom Indian Super Scout, complete with turbocharger, is a swift machine destined for glory.
The bike was built by Swedes Anders Lundgren and Lasse Sundberg as an homage to Indian Motocycle's Swedish co-founder, Oscar Hedstrom, and what a fine tribute it is.
The V-twin engine is borrowed from a modern Indian Scout but it's been augmented with a Garret 25 turbo, said to produce from 150 to 200hp at the rear wheel depending on boost.
Apart from the engine and a handful of other components the bike, which has rather fittingly been named as a 'Super Scout', is largely crafted from custom parts, including the three-piece frame lovingly fabricated by Sundberg.
The Super Scout's styling harks back to the board-track racers of the 1920s. However, with sort of performance on tap, the machine represents a heady fusion of old and new. It's kind of like the ultimate street sleeper – just with a liberal dash of pre-war class.
Beyond those looks the bike still benefits from plenty of up-to-the-minute technology, including a programmable ECU with Bluetooth connectivity, allowing the engine to be tuned via an iPad. Keyless starting and an LED taillight would have also prompted plenty of raised eyebrows back in the day…
Lundgren is still in the process of fine-tuning the bike; the pair say they're open to offers should someone want to take it off their hands for the right price, but otherwise it's destined for life as a daily ride – just one guaranteed to leave a trail of double-takes and craning necks in its wake…
