The new Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle 131 engine goes on sale in Australia from March 2020, and at 131 cubic inches – or 2147cc – it's the biggest-capacity road-compliant powerplant the company has ever produced.
Harley-Davidson says it's also its most powerful street engine, resulting in 121hp at the rear wheel and a monster 178Nm of torque.
The latest addition to the Motor Co's Screamin' Eagle range of performance products, the Screamin' Eagle 131 is a 45-degree V-twin that serves as a bolt-in replacement for 2017 or later Harley-Davidson Touring models originally equipped with a Milwaukee-Eight Oil-Cooled or Twin-Cooled V-twin.
The high-performance engine has the same 4.5-inch stroke of the Milwaukee-Eight 114 but a larger 4.3-inch bore. Milwaukee-Eight Extreme Ported four-valve cylinder heads are CNC ported and fitted with 1mm larger-diameter valves to optimise air/fuel flow and velocity, and feature fully machined combustion chambers shaped to optimise combustion efficiency.
The engine is also features a high-lift SE8-517 camshaft and high-performance cam bearing, high-compression (10.7:1) forged pistons, a 64mm throttle body and intake manifold, and high-flow (5.5-grams per second) fuel injectors.
"Our adrenaline-seeking riders asked for thrilling power and torque with reliability," said Harley-Davidson Product Manager, James Crean.
"The Screamin' Eagle 131 Crate Engine delivers exactly that. Developed by the Screamin' Eagle performance team and factory-assembled at Harley-Davidson Powertrain Operations to ensure the highest quality standards, this high-performance engine is genuine Harley-Davidson."
