Suzuki’s much-loved but ageing GSX750F middleweight has finally been replaced locally, with the introduction of the GSX650F.
Actually displacing 656cc, the machine is a significant upgrade from the old machine and should produce similar if not better performance despite giving away a little engine capacity.
The powerplant is now liquid-cooled and fuel injected, while the styling borrows from the GSX-R family.
Perhaps the best news is the price, which has been kept down to $9990 plus ORC.
Below is the corporate brag sheet on the bike, plus the specs.
1.
656cm3 4-cylinder fuel-injected engine built for broad power, refined response, fewer emissions and better fuel economy.
2.
Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) cylinder plating makes for better heat transfer, ring seal while reducing blowby and mechanical losses.
3.
Hard, smooth chrome-nitride Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating on the upper compression and oil control piston rings reduces friction and wear while improving sealing.
4.
Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) digital fuel injection system results in improved power delivery, a more linear response, better fuel mileage and less emissions.
5.
The SDTV system uses engine-computer-operated secondary valves to maintain optimum intake-air velocity for maximum combustion efficiency.
6.
Compact multi-fine-hole injectors in each throttle body improve fuel atomization and better combustion efficiency.
7.
Comprehensive ignition-timing control, with separate maps for each cylinder using feedback from multiple sensors.
8.
Separate ignition coils for each spark plug cap help minimize voltages losses.
9.
Pulsed-secondary AIR-injection (PAIR) system injects fresh air into the exhaust ports to ignite unburned hydrocarbons and reduce carbon monoxide emissions.
10.
Automatic Idle Speed Control (ISC) system improves cold starting and reduces emissions at start-ups.
11.
Efficient engine-cooling system, using a large-capacity radiator and an engine-computer-controlled cooling fan.
12.
Exhaust system carrying a catalyst and an oxygen sensor.
13.
Multi-plate clutch friction material optimized for better shifting feel. Clutch cylinder piston ratios carefully selected for easier clutch-lever pull.
14.
The GSX650F, one of the cleanest-running middleweight Suzuki motorcycles ever built, meets tough Euro 3 and TIER 2 emissions standards.
15.
41mm-stanchion-tube KYB front forks with adjustable spring preload and a full 130mm (5.12 inches) of travel.
16.
Single-shock rear suspension features KYB shock absorber with adjustable spring preload and rebound damping.
17.
Double-cradle tubular steel frame designed with optimum torsional rigidity well-matched to the engine’s power and torque output.
18.
Wheelbase is 1,470mm (57.9 inches) with 26 degrees of rake and 108mm (4.3 inches) of trail.
19.
Three-spoke cast aluminum-alloy wheels shod with 120/70ZR17M/C (58W) and 160/60ZR17 M/C (69W) radial tires.
20.
Dual 310mm (12.2-inch) floating-disc front brakes with four-piston calipers and 240mm (9.5-inch)-disc rear brake.
21.
One-piece integrated rider/passenger seat designed for comfort with or without a passenger. A relatively low 770mm (30.3-inch) seat height.
22.
Riding position chosen for a finely balanced mix of sportiness and all-around comfort.
23.
Rubber-mounted handlebars reduce vibration reaching the rider.
24.
Analog tachometer, LCD speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, clock, dual trip meters, reserve trip meter and gear position indicator.
25.
GSX-R racing-inspired bright shift light to remind rider to upshift, programmable at any engine speed up to redline.
26.
GSX-R-series-like full fairing, vertically stacked multi-reflector headlights display Suzuki’s sportbike DNA.
27.
The 19-liter fuel tank is neatly integrated with the fairing and tail section for a distinct sporty look.
