Ever dreamed of owning a MotoGP bike? Well, most of us probably never will, but some manufacturers have offered ‘race replicas’ that are the next best thing. The Ducati Desmosedici RR is one such example.
The Ducati Desmosedici RR was first announced in 2004 as a road-legal replica of the Italian brands successful MotoGP machine. Ducati claimed at the time that it was the first true road replica of a MotoGP bike.
Ducati presented the finished product at the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello in 2006, with the first orders being delivered to customers in January 2008. It was great timing, with Casey Stoner picking up the MotoGP World Championship for Ducati in 2007.

Only 1500 examples of the highly-prized bike were built and production lasted from October 2007 to December 2008. Rumour has it that Tom Cruise got his hands on unit No.0001.
The Ducati Desmosedici RR was powered by a 989cc desmodromic V4 engine that put out a claimed 197.3hp at 13,800rpm and 116Nm of torque at 10,500rpm. Ducati claimed a top speed of 303km/h.
Suspension was handled by an Ohlins FG353P 43mm inverted fork and an Ohlins PRXB single shock, while braking was taken care of by dual semi-floating 330mm discs and Brembo 4-piston radial mount caliper on the front, and a single 240mm disc with opposed 2-piston opposed caliper on the back. The bike also featured Bridgestone BT-01 Uno tyres front and rear.
With a price tag of US$72,500 (roughly $93,000AUD today), the Desmo RR didn’t come cheap, but the price did include a racing kit that featured a race-only exhaust system, slip-on muffler, sticker kit and race ECU, as well as magnesium wheels.
Apparently only 120 units made their way to Australia with all snapped up very quickly. One example recently went under the hammer at a Shannons auction, fetching $74,500. That particular unit was No.0606/1500.
Now a Desmosedici RR has popped up on bikesales, with the seller asking $99,999. The bike, which is located in South Australia, is No.1483/1500 and the seller claims that latter examples are generally better-built machines.
This Desmo RR comes with the factory sticker kit still in the box, a rear stand and cover, plus all the manuals, keys code card and a trickle charger. The bike only has 1311km’s on the clock, and the seller claims the bike is ‘immaculate’ having spent much of its life inside a ‘warm, dry house’.
For those interested, the bike does come with a roadworthy certificate, while registration can be discussed with the seller. Check out the listing for this 2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR now.
