EICMA: 2023 MV Agusta Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro

Italian firm unveils 208hp ‘neo-retro’ superbike

What will surely vie for EICMA’s Most Beautiful Bike Award in 2022, MV Agusta unveiled a limited-edition inline four-cylinder 1000cc version of its Superveloce 800 at the Milan Show, called the Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro.

Each hand assembled and individually numbered, it’s more than just the result of shoehorning the larger engine into the existing platform. Instead, it was created using the engine, frame and single-sided swingarm of the Brutale 1000, before the bodywork was designed using computer fluid dynamics to achieve thoroughly modern aerodynamic performance from the retro-looking fairing.

Boasting a cleverly integrated MotoGP-like aerodynamic wing at the front which is claimed to provide 39.2kg of downforce at 320km/h, all pieces of the bodywork are made from carbon-fibre, save for the plastic 16-litre fuel tank.

It’s powered by the Brutale 1000’s 998cc inline-four cylinder engine, said to be good for 208hp (153kW) at 13,000rpm, while peak torque is a claimed 116.5Nm chiming in at 11,000rpm. That’s some performance for a bike quoted to tip the scales at a claimed 192kg (dry).

The MV Agusta Superveloce 1000 gets an individually mapped ECU specific to the bike’s characteristics, but gains the firm’s top-shelf electronics package including IMU-actuated ABS, traction control and rear-wheel lift mitigation systems, as well as an adjustable two-way quickshifter.

Befitting of its Serie Oro (literally, Gold Series) nomenclature is top-spec Öhlins suspension in the form of fully adjustable and electronically controlled NiX EC fork matched to a EC TTX monoshock at the rear. And it’s Brembo’s top-shelf Stylema calipers looking after the braking, while the wheels are forged aluminium alloy.

Possibly the most striking design feature is the four-outlet underseat Arrow exhaust system, created to mimic the firm’s much-loved F4 superbike.

No word at this stage whether any of the units will make it to Australian shores or what the 2023 Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro might retail for.
