After teasing punters with the reveal of its high-performance single-cylinder engine, Ducati has pulled the covers off the all-new Hypermotard 698 Mono.
Set to arrive on Australian shores in the second quarter of 2024 with a starting price tag of $22,800 ride away, the new Ducati Hypermotard 689 Mono will compete with the likes of the KTM 690 SMC R in the niche, but popular supermoto class.
Ducati first revealed the Superquadro Mono engine last week – an unit that it claims is the most powerful single-cylinder engine in history. The motor, which is derived from the twin-cylinder 1299 Panigale, puts out 77.5hp at 10,250rpm or 84.5hp with a racing exhaust.
As well as the Superquadro Mono, the new Hypermotard 698 Mono will also be fitted with a full electronics package that includes cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, engine brake control, and launch control. A quickshifter is optional, but it is standard on the higher-spec RVE version of the bike.
The 698 Mono also has four ride modes, a 3.8-inch LCD display, and LED lighting. Additionally, Ducati says this is the first bike in its range that includes four levels of ABS, which works with a Slide-by-Brake function and allows for controlled brake-induced slides.
Weighing in at just 151kg dry, the 698 Mono utilises a steel-trellis frame and lightweight components that give the machine an appearance and feel like a dirt bike. The Marzocchi suspension is fully adjustable, while the 17-inch wheels are clad in Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV rubber. Braking is handled by specially-designed Brembo equipment.
The Hypermotard 698 Mono comes in classic Ducati Red, while the RVE version offers dedicated graphics, a black frame, and a quickshifter as standard. Its unclear how much extra the RVE version will cost or if it will be available in Australia.
