Ducati celebrates 25 years of Monsters

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the birth of Ducati's Monster family of naked bikes, and to celebrate the Italian brand has lined up a range of commemorative events.

Penned by Miguel Galluzzi and first shown to the public at the Intermot motorcycle expo in Germany in 1992, the model burst on the global scene in 1993 and arguably gave birth to the modern naked bike genre.

That original Monster 900 has spawned dozens of variants in the years since, and today the Monster family is as healthy as ever, spanning the 797, 797+, 821, 1200, 1200 S and 1200 R.

The celebrate a quarter century of Monster Ducati has planned a number of events, including a special parade on March 24 in France at the Sunday Ride Classic 2018, and the admission of an original 1993 Monster 900 to the Ducati Museum in Borgo Panigale, Bologna.

The Sunday Ride Classic 2018 is an international event dedicated to collectors' bikes to be held at the Paul Ricard Circuit in Le Castellet, France. Ducati and the European Ducati Owners Clubs involved in the event have called 'Monsteristi' together to stage a racetrack parade to celebrate the anniversary.

The original Monster 900 went on display in the Ducati Museum on March 5, marking exactly 25 years since the first Monster rolled off the production line. The bike was obtained from a collector and enthusiast who kept it in pristine collection, and now it will be appreciated by the thousands of visitors who flock to the museum each year.

The reign of the Monster will also be celebrated at this year World Ducati Week festival, which will take place at San Marino's Misano circuit over July 20-22. A full schedule of events for WDW 2018 will be announced shortly.
