Ducati breaks sales record

The Italian powerhouse delivered a record number of motorcycles to its customers in 2022, amid a stellar year in general

Ducati has announced it delivered 61,562 motorcycles last year, with sales growing by 3.6 per cent over the year before.

The company’s domestic market was its largest, with 9578 bikes delivered and sales growth of 10%, followed by the USA with 8441 bikes – a contraction of 6%, thanks in part to logistical challenges and shipping delays. Rounding out the podium was Germany, with 6678 bikes, which equates with growth of 9%.

Across all the brand’s many models, it was the Ducati Multistrada V4 that proved the most popular (10,716 delivered worldwide), followed by the Monster (7971) and Scrambler 800 (6880).

The Ducati dealership network also grew, reaching a record high of 821 outlets worldwide, bolstered by the new markets of Brunei, Ecuador, El Salvador and Mongolia. All up, Ducati now has representation in 96 countries.

And then there was the racing success, with the Bologna-based brand laying claim to both MotoGP (Francesco Bagnaia) and WorldSBK (Alvaro Bautista) in 2022.

Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali said the results prove the company’s strategies are continuing to pay dividends.

“This sales result is the outcome of the path that has seen us steadily invest in the development of innovative motorcycles and consistently strive to improve the quality of the product and the experience enjoyed by our passionate Ducatisti,” he said.

“In addition, the Ducati brand has never been more loved and desirable, thanks to our extraordinary sporting achievements and our ongoing commitment to making our Ducatisti feel part of a big, welcoming family.

“Achieving a sales result above the already excellent result of 2021 in such a difficult year for the entire automotive system, which was afflicted by serious supply discontinuities, particularly in the world of semiconductors, is really an important measure of the flexibility with which the whole of Ducati reacted, together with our suppliers and dealers.

“This flexibility allowed us to contain the impact on delivery delays for our fans – whom I take this opportunity to thank for their patience and dedication – and thus also to achieve this sales result.”
