Cameron Donald gets podium in TT race

On Sunday, June 6, Australian Suzuki rider Cameron Donald has rallied to score a podium finish at the Isle of Man Superbike TT.

Ian Hutchinson was first overall while Michael Dunlop came in second place, both of whom were riding Hondas.

After a mistake on the first lap, Donald dropped down to 13th place.

"I made a small error coming into the Nook and lost a lot of time on the opening lap, but when I pitted the boys told me I was making it back up," said Donald.

Gaining ground with some ultra-quick riding over the 60km mountain course, the six-lap curtain raiser event went from bad to good for the Australian, who suffered a dislocated shoulder in last year's event after posting excellent results.

"This exact day 12 months ago I was sitting in Nobles Hospital, so to get back here and get back on the podium is pretty sweet. I just never gave up and that along with support of the team gave me this podium and a great start to TT week," added Donald.

"That's what the TT is all about – perseverance," said Philip Neill, the team manager for Relentless by TAS Suzuki. "Cameron could easily have believed the race was over for him after the opening lap, but he chipped away and chipped away and we are delighted with his podium in this important year for Suzuki at the TT."

There's still plenty more racing action to come from the Isle of Man TT, with sidecars, supersport and superstock racing plus the TT Zero racing, which involves electric race bikes.
