BMW and Husqvarna concept bikes

Husqvarna's second street bike concept and BMW's electric maxi scooter will be unveiled in Frankfurt

The exhibition of choice for most motorcycle companies in the modern era is EICMA in Milan, but BMW will be showing off a couple of new concept bikes at the Frankfurt motor show in Germany, dubbed the world's largest motor show.

Kicking off on September 14, the Frankfurt motor show is predominantly a car show, but BMW will show Husqvarna and BMW Motorrad products as well, including two world premieres.

On top of its new Nuda 900R, Husqvarna will show off what is rumoured to be a compact, small capacity motorcycle that "...targets specifically young customers seeking a single track commuter vehicle outside of the scooter segment."

Do we smell a KTM 125 Duke rival in the wings?

Husqvarna appears to be extending its reach into the road-bike/scooter market and says its new concept motorcycle will expose "visionary, extraordinary design". Normally such a comment would be taken with a grain of salt, but after the Nuda 900 we should expect something equally radical.

BMW Motorrad meanwhile will show off a new two-wheeled "e-mobility" vehicle, which is expected to be its new generation BMW electric maxi scooter. As previously reported, the new scooter could have a cruising range of around 100km, with regenerative braking potentially adding 10km to the range.

It is also expected to be a frame-less scooter, using the battery casing as its 'spine' rather than a traditional steel frame. The battery pack would be the main stressed member, while the single-sided swingarm at the rear and head stock at the front would be connected to it. This platform could make for interesting handling characteristics.

Along with BMW's new electric maxi scooter and Husqvarna's compact motorcycle concept, the Nuda 900R will makes its first official public viewing.

The Nuda is Husqvarna's first twin-cylinder motorcycle since 1937, and is expected to turn a lot of heads with its radical, edgy design. Follow the link for more details on the Husqvarna Nuda 900.

According to its pre-show statement, Husqvarna says the Nuda 900 will see the brand "...embarking on a new chapter in its company history of over a hundred years, and launching a powerful, emotionally charged motorcycle."

Check out the full details on the Husqvarna Nuda 900, which is claimed to combine "the characteristic genes of the Husqvarna brand with the BMW Motorrad competence in technology and innovation." That last bit means it'll probably get traction control.
