Znug Design zecOO prototype scooter

Japanese design firm adds fuel to the "scooters are cool" fire, deploying this outrageous electric scooter

Witness the imminent arrival of several high-tech maxi scooters: The Honda Integra with its dual clutch transmission and BMW's entry into the maxi market with a pair of parallel twins. Could it be argued that we are approaching an evolutionary stage in the maxi scooter's life cycle, a paradigm shift in the way we perceive the once-ridiculed maxi scoot?

Maxi scooters have been trendy in Japan with the young folk for quite some time now, due in large part to their affordability, and out of the growing scooter modification scene the zecOO was born.

This custom maxi scooter looks like something out of a science-fiction film, and was built by Znug Design in Japan.

The first thing that jumps out about this scooter is the design - it's radical. It features a bold front windscreen and a large fairing, and we like the way the foot pegs poke out from the body panels.

While the front wheel is suspended by a single-sided, hub-steered jig, the swingarm that connects the rear wheel to the frame is also a single-sided affair.

Other visual standouts for the "low-riding motorcycle" include large tyres and the front end's giant single rotor, a la Buell. The rear gets a carbon hugger/fender with an vertical LED brake light.

Propulsion is via an electric motor that pumps out 28hp (20kW) and a massive 63Nm of torque, all which is transferred from idle to the rear wheel via belt drive.

Znug Design is also famous for its Minimum Mobility Boots. Check out more images at http://www.zecoomotor.com/.
