Zero Motorcycles has unveiled its latest electric model, the SR/F, which has taken its performance parameters to a new level.
While the Santa Cruz-based company will still continue to pursue its commuter goals, the SR/F is cut from a different cloth: 190Nm and 110hp from the new Z-Force 75-10 motor and ZF-14.4 lithium-ion battery in a package weighing 220kg for the standard model and 226kg for the premium model.
In power terms, that’s a little under the peak you’ll get for a Triumph Street Triple RS, and about the same amount of torque (but instant on the SR/F...) that a 2000cc cruiser might pull. So serious mumbo – Zero claims a 200km/h top speed – and the bike wouldn’t look out of place in a ‘traditional’ showroom. That headlight has a bit of Ducati Monster about it.
The radial brakes are by Spanish company J-Juan, suspension is fully adjustable Showa, and the steering geometry is sharp: 24.5 degrees rake and 94mm trail.
Electronics are a standout, and the SR/F has an operating system called Cypher III which is paired to Bosch’s Motorcycle Stability Control system – and your smartphone App, of course…
There are multiple riding modes and plenty of programmable ones as well.
Charging? From scratch, it takes 2.5 hours for the premium model, and 4.5 for the standard – which can be reduced to 1.5 and 1.8 hours with a rapid charge option.
Mileage is a just shy of 200km for ‘combined’ riding (half-urban and half freeway), but with the Power Tank auxillary option that will be much higher.
Price in America (which does differ between states depending on available tax concessions and rebates) for the base model SR/F with a 3kw/h charger is $18,995 ($A26,500).
Cost is still up there, but finally real performance is too...
