Zero Motorcycles unveil full-fairing electric SR/S

American company Zero is set to unleash a high-performance electric sports tourer based on its naked SR/F

Zero Motorcycles has unveiled a fully-faired electric motorcycle that is capable of a 200km/h top speed and 321km’s of range.

The Zero SR/S was revealed in New York in mid-Feb, and is a sports tourer that is heavily based on the American marque’s SR/F streetfighter, which was unveiled last year.

With the addition of the full-fairing, Zero claims it has achieved more aerodynamic efficiency, with a 13% increase in range over the naked SR/F.

Ergonomically, the bike will feature a more upright and relaxed riding position, thanks to lower foot position and higher handlebar height.

The ZF14.4 lithium-ion battery makes the SR/S capable of a 320km maximum range, although this is with the optional ‘Power Tank’. The ZF75-10 motor delivers 190Nm of torque and 110hp, with the bike capable of hitting 200km/h.

A ‘Rapid Charge System’ allows the bike to be configured for 3 kW, 6kW, 9kW or 12kW of charging at any standard Level 2 charge station. Zero claim the system will charge the bike to 242km of range per hour of charging on 12kW.

The SR/S is also packed with heaps of electronic wizardry. There are four standard ride modes and up to 10 programmable custom modes. The bikes performance can be customised through a smartphone app and the dash interface. The 12.5cm TFT LCD display is customisable and multi-mode navigation enable on-the-fly adjustments. There is also cruise control and heated hand grips.

Connectivity is also a focus with this bike. The SR/S is connected through cellular networks and transmits info into the app at all times. Ride information, current bike status and location are always available and the system also allows the rider to monitor in multiple ways. The connectivity and Cypher III system also provides data including charge-station locations, time to charge, location of bike, speed, lean angle, power, torque and much more.

Zero has also integrated Bosch’s MSC system and, when combined with the Cypher III operating system, the company claims best-in-class straight-line ABS cornering brake control, traction control and drag torque control.

A lightweight, strong steel-trellis frame, custom swing arm and advanced Showa suspension are designed for supreme handling and performance.

While the Zero SR/S appears to be a quality, high-tech electric machine that could go head to head with Harley-Davidson’s Livewire, don’t expect to see it in Australia anytime soon, unless you’re willing to import one; Zero ended consumer sales in Australia in 2017.

The bike is expected to weigh in at 229kg for the standard model and 234kg for a premium model. It is priced at $21,995USD.
