Zero Motorcycles is pulling the pin on Australia – for the second time – with the Santa Cruz-based electric motorcycle marque citing an inability "to build an economically viable business model".
In a statement, the company said that "the costs of providing an exceptional customer experience coupled with unfavorable exchange rates and taxes in these markets makes it difficult to offer competitive pricing today".

“This decision came after much deliberation, and was the best choice for the business at this time,” said Todd Andersen, VP of Sales, Marketing, and Aftersales.
“However, all of our owners are extremely important to us, and we will continue to provide support to Australian owners through GBT Imports, our exclusive distributor, to ensure a matchless ownership experience is maintained.”
Zero says it will continue to "monitor the region for changes in economic and consumer trends that could create more positive market conditions for electric motorcycles in the future".
Bikesales first rode a Zero way back in 2010 but a soft response by Aussie consumers eventually saw the first importer call time a few years later.
The New South Wales-based GBT Imports then took over the distributorship in late 2013, but once again the electric tackle has failed to gain enough traction to become a viable player in the local market.
