The Californian-based electric motorcycle maker, Zero Motorcycles, has continued its expansionary drive, announcing a dualsport machine to sit alongside its existing on and off-road offerings.
Zero is pushing hard the versatility line, although in effect the dualsport (DS) is basically an S supermoto machine with chunkier hoops. There are also slight differences in front suspension travel and steering head angle, but nothing to drastically alter handling manners.
The claimed weight of the DS is 122.5kg. Of that figure, 13.2kg and 36.3kg are taken up by the frame and power pack respectively, the later including the high-spec lithium battery.
Recharge time is less than four hours, which is good for about 80km of travel.
The Bikesales Network recently tested the Zero X Extreme, and we came away extremely impressed with both the level of simplicity and the compelling ride. It’s a real seismic shift, and one that will surprise many people.
The X Extreme weighs just 68.5kg all up – I’m not lying – so it’s ridiculously easy to turn. Next up will be a test on the higher-spec MX bike.
The DS, like the S, will have to go through homologation before it goes on sale in Australia, and at the moment there is no timeline on that process.
In the meantime, the first shipment of X and MX bikes will leave America in August, and are expected to go on sale in Australia in September.
Zero Motorcycles Australia (ZMA) is still in the process of appointing a sales network, and welcomes individual dealers to contact them.
