Yamaha Motor Australia has confirmed the popular YZF-R3 Cup will be back in 2016, and will be held in conjunction with five rounds of the Australian Superbike Championship, including the final round at Phillip Island.
Backed by Yamaha Motor Finance and Yamaha Motor Insurance, Yamaha says the series is ideal for entry-level road racers and junior motocross, short circuit and dirt track racers.
Yamaha is subsidising the cost of the R3 Cup package, meaning entrants can pick up a bike in road trim with a full race pack of extras for just $7900.
The race kit comprises the following items:
• Plain black racing fibreglass bodywork
• Decal kit
• Mupo race suspension upgrade
• Oxford race stand
• Rearsets
• Sprocket set
• Akrapovic exhaust system
• Handlebar clamp set
• R&G crash protector set
• Yamalube service kit
The bike can even be purchased through YMF, giving approved purchases the package from around $88 per week (based on a 24-month term).
To be eligible for the YMF/YMI R3 Cup Championship – as well as the considerable prize and contingency packages that will be on offer – four of the five rounds that are planned need to be competed.
"The huge success of the 2016 R3 Cup has made the decision to go again for 2017 a no-brainer," said Stephen Cotterell, YMA General Manager and Director.
"This entry-level competition emphasises the enjoyment of riding and competing on equal and cost-effective machinery. Yamaha is continuing to introduce new riders to the sport in order to help build a more solid future for Australian road racing."
YMF/YMI R3 Cup prizes and contingencies are once again focused on the lower grades and newcomers. Past champions, A-graders, internationals and VIPs will be welcome to compete but will not be eligible for points or prizes.
