
Yamaha has taken the covers off the production version of the fully faired YZF-R25, which produces a tidy 35.5hp at 12,000rpm and 23Nm at 10,000rpm from the parallel twin engine.
There is nothing confirmed for the Australian market as yet, but Yamaha Motor Australia’s communications manager Sean Goldhawk told the Bikesales Network that his company is “talking with the factory about getting this model but more relevant to the Australian market”. If it does arrive Down Under, competition in the ultra-competitive learner market will include the Kawasaki Ninja 300 (39hp, 27Nm) and the forthcoming Honda CBR300 (30.4hp, 27Nm).

The Indonesia-built R-25 was first unveiled as a concept at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, with styling in the mould of Yamaha’s YZF-R1 MotoGP racer. In fact, Yamaha released a YouTube clip of the R25 that began with its focus on the top-tier machine. Factory pilot Valentino Rossi, suited up and ready for action, then bypasses the M1 in favour of the new R25.
