Yamaha V-Star 650 price rollback

Permanent 2K reductions as both drop below the $10,000 mark

Yamaha Motor Australia’s dropped the retail price on its two entry-level 650cc V-Star LAMS cruisers – the XVS650A Classic and XVS650 Custom – by $2000.

The new price for the Classic is $9299, and the Custom is $8799.

The XVS range has been a perennial favourite on the Australia cruiser scene, with the models consistently near or at the top of the segment in terms of sales for many years. In 2017, combined sales for the Classic and Custom put them seventh overall in the cruiser category.

Both machines are basic designs, with 28mm carburetors feeding 649cc air-cooled SOHC engines with five-speed gearboxes. Maximum power is 39.4hp (29.4kW) at 6500rpm, and peak torque is produced at 3000rpm.

They have rear drum brakes, and the Custom weighs in at 233kg (wet), with the Classic adding another 14kg on top of that.

The Custom has a 19/15-inch wheel combination, and the Classic’s 16/15.

The two Japanese-built shaft-driven bikes are sold with a five-year warranty and are available in any colour – just as long as it’s black…
