Yamaha unveils all-new BeeWee 125

Yamaha's BeeWee has copped a ground-up makeover, and now features a clean, green four-stroke engine

The recent Melbourne Motorcycle Expo saw the Australian public get its first up-close-and-personal glimpse of the latest addition to Yamaha’s scooter range, the BeeWee 125.

Powered by a 125cc, air-cooled, fuel-injected, four-valve, SOHC, four-stroke single-cylinder engine, the model shares little with the existing YW100 BeeWee -- a 101cc two-stroke -- bar the name.
The new BeeWee features a refined yet rugged look, with 12-inch all-terrain tyres, dual rear shocks, wide handlebars and a diminutive 1290mm wheelbase, while Yamaha says the engine is good for 9.1hp (6.7kW) at 7500rpm and 9.6Nm at 6000rpm. With a wet weight of 121kg, that should be ample for sprightly city commutes.
The BeeWee 125 also has room for a pillion, plus enough underseat storage to swallow a full-face helmet. Available in avalanche white or midnight black, the new BeeWee 125 will be available from April 2011 – pricing details are still to be confirmed.
