Yamaha Motor Australia has announced its support of two new national motorcycle championships – supermoto and supermono – based around its YZ450F motocross machine.
Both championships are aimed at dirt bike riders who want to sample road racing at rock bottom cost, with minimal technical changes allowed to ensure a level playing field.
YMA is putting up the prize of one brand new YZ450F for the winner of the newly introduced Supermoto 450 RR class at the Australian Supermoto Championship (ASMO), and the same machine for the winner of the three-round Australian Supermono Championship.
In addition, the B, C and D-grade round winners of each series will receive a free pair of Dunlop Alpha 12 production racing tyres valued at $442 RRP. The tyres will be presented to the winners at each event.
“This is purely an initiative by Yamaha to help riders from any discipline onto a road race track at the lowest cost by running the most popular model in Australia,” said YMA Motorsports Manager Ray Howard. “YMA has invested considerable effort into this to encourage riders to sample road racing in order to grow the sport in Australia.”
As outlined recently, the Australian Supermoto Championship will be held alongside the final two stand alone rounds of the Australian Superbike Championship -- at Queensland Raceway from June 3-5 and Phillip Island from November 18-20. The events will be tramac only.
The Australian Supermono Championship calendar is as follows:
