The Yamaha XTZ 1200 Super Tenere is the Japanese brand's big-daddy adventure bike, rivaling the likes of the Honda Varadero, Suzuki DL 1000 V-Strom and BMW R 1200 GS, and a special edition model has broken cover in Italy, at the Verona motorcycle expo.
Yamaha's big adventure tourer is powered by a liquid-cooled 1199cc parallel cranking out 110hp (80.9kW) at 7250rpm, which is more than BMW GS's 105hp, but interestingly the white-coloured Super Tenere (previously only available in blue or black) also features an Akrapovic exhaust, so that power figure could be a little higher.
The Bikesales Network spoke to Yamaha Motor Australia's media manager Sean Goldhawk, who said the new model is a European-spec special edition and that there are "No plans as yet" to offer such a model in Australia.
However Goldhawk hinted that the special Tenere could make an appearance at a later date Down Under tempering his initial comments by adding, "That's not to say we wouldn't do something like that [special edition Super Tenere] in future."
As well as the Akrapovic exhaust with carbon shroud and new colour scheme, the special edition Super Tenere comes with the same standard features as the $19,990 models available at present, including side-mounted radiators, wide-ratio six-speed transmission, Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCCC-T) which adds things like an adjustable three-mode traction control system.
