Yamaha is extracting maximum currency out of latest modular design concept, judging by the first pics and details of the new 2017 SCR950.
Featuring the 942cc, air-cooled, SOHC, 60-degree, four-valve V-twin that features in models such as the Bolt and V Star XVS950A, the SCR950 pays homage to the scrambler-style bikes of the 1960s, and comes with a low one-piece bench seat, elliptical side race plates, fork gaitors and a wide and relatively flat handlebar.
Yamaha says the relatively low-compression (9.0:1) V-twin engine "is ideal for exploring unpaved roads off the beaten track and powering out of tight corners", with the urge delivered via a five-speed transmission.
The engine benefits from electronic fuel injection and is slotted into a tubular steel double cradle frame, while the plot rolls on a 41mm fork and twin piggy-back rear shocks.
For braking there's a 298mm wave disc at each end while final drive is provided by a fuss-free belt.
The front and rear steel fenders are tailor made for customisation, says Yamaha, while an LED taillight adds to the model's "neo-retro appeal".
In the US the SCR950 is priced at $US8699 ($A11,682) in either of two colour schemes: Charcoal Silver or Rapid Red.
No word yet on if or when the SCR950 will be gracing our shores – we'll update you as soon as we know.
