In 2014, Bikesales ventured along to the launch of the twin front wheel leaning Yamaha Tricity, and just a year later the Japanese company has showcased two sharply contrasting concept models based on the original at the Bangkok motor show.
The 03GEN-f was designed with the underlying theme of "Future Racing" with its sleek, winged and futuristic design, while the 03GEN-x treads down an entirely different path – quite literally – with a traditional off-road design "that is reminiscent of the days of unpaved roads".
There are dual-purpose tyres, spoked wheels, a massive tubular rear grab rail, short dirt-style guards and wide-ish handlebars. The seat jags right down to the footwell and the front end is fully exposed, with the tandem-type cantilevered telescopic front forks there for all to see. Maybe we might see a '03GEN-x Motocross Cup' one day….
Yamaha established 'Refined Dynamism' as its design philosophy in 2013, which is where 03GEN-f and 03GEN-x get their inspiration from. And there will be more to come.
